Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a condition characterized by curvature of the spine in the lateral plane (i.e., right-to-left). It has the potential to cause pain and stiffness in the back, neck, and shoulders. The cause of scoliosis is often unknown, called idiopathic scoliosis, or can be related to several different factors. Once a child nears the end of growth, scoliosis can no longer be corrected but must be managed appropriately (depending on the severity of the curvatures). If severe, scoliosis can require bracing or surgery to correct. Chiropractic care is a safe and effective treatment for mild to moderate forms of scoliosis to help people manage the pain and stiffness associated with scoliosis. Chiropractors are trained to diagnosis a scoliosis and have the knowledge to know when a scoliosis should be referred to a medical provider for more aggressive intervention.

Our Approach

The specific cause of scoliosis first needs to be identified. Most common types of scoliosis is related to muscle imbalance, joint dysfunction, leg length inequality, or poor posture. The chiropractor may use chiropractic adjustments, Myofascial Release Techniques (MRT),   spinal stability exercises or functional rehabilitation to assist a patient in dealing with pain associated with a scoliosis.
