Metatarsalgia

Metatarsalgia is a condition resulting from excessive pressure over the ball of the foot. Over time this increased pressure will lead to pain and inflammation to the area, which makes walking, running, and standing uncomfortable. In most cases there is some type of foot imbalance, but problems in the low back or pelvis can also lead to abnormal pressure distribution over the ball of the foot.

Our Approach

Specific treatment is dependant on the cause of the condition, but treatment will usually include the use of custom foot orthotics to redistribute the pressure away from the ball of the foot, Myofascial Release Technique (MRT) to address muscle imbalance, and joint manipulation to restore normal biomechanics and function to the foot.  Low intensity laser therapy is used to settle excessive inflammation and pain associated with excessive pressure on the joints of the foot.
