Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
As the nerves exit the spine they continue to travel down the shoulder and into the arm to supply the muscles, joints, blood vessels, and skin of the upper extremity. As the nerve travels from the neck down along the arm it must pass through, under, and between the various muscles. If excessive tension or scar tissue adhesions exist in any of these muscles it can entrap the nerve and interfere with the nerve function, resulting in symptoms in the neck, shoulder, and/or down the arm.
Our Approach
We utilize Myofascial Release Techniques (MRT) to address the underlying tightness and scar tissue formation that is putting pressure and entrapping the nerves and vascular structures at the thoracic outlet. By releasing the tension on these structures it acts to decrease the excessive pressure and tension, helping to restore function. Depending on the cause of the condition, chiropractic adjustments and functional rehabilitation may also be incorporated into the treatment plan.
