Patellar Tracking Dysfunction / Runner’s Knee

The patella (ie. the knee cap) sits in a groove at the end of the femur (ie. thigh bone). Under normal conditions the patella will slide easily in this groove as the knee bends. If there is an imbalance in the muscles that surround the patella it will cause the patella to pull to one side and instead of sliding smoothly it will grind more on one side that the other. Over time this will wear down the cartilage may progress to degeneration of the knee.

Our Appoach

We focus on restoring abnormal tension in the muscles surrounding the patella with Myofascial Release Techniques (MRT),  or Graston Technique and restoring balance and strength to the muscles with functional rehabilitation. In addition, any biomechanical problems in the feet, hip, and spine will have to be addressed.
