Frozen Shoulder / Adhesive Capsulitis
The cause of frozen shoulder is unknown, but it usually occurs in patients over the age of 40. In this condition, the joint capsule around the shoulder joint becomes tight and stiff, which results in restricted and painful movement of the shoulder. Often the patient will present with severe pain with movement in all directions and cannot recall any precipitating event.
Our Approach
Treatment is directed in loosening of the tightened shoulder capsule through stretching, Graston Technique, home exercise, and Myofascial Release Techniques (MRT). In the early stages with severe pain co-management is often required with a medical physician to prescribe pain mediation. True cases of frozen shoulder are difficult to manage and can take up to two years to resolve on their own without treatment.
