Bursitis

A bursa is a fluid filled sac that is located between muscles, ligaments, and bones to facilitate sliding of structures within the body. A variety of problems such as muscle tightness, muscle imbalance, SI joint dysfunction, or abnormal hip motion can lead to excessive stress or compression to the bursa resulting in pain and inflammation. When this happens hip movements can become painful. Pain is often felt with standing and walking, and can also be felt with lying down, particularily on the painful side. There are several key bursa in the hip that can become problematic and pain will vary depending on which bursa is affected.

Our Approach

The early stages of treatment are focused on reducing the inflammation of the bursa. Low-intensity laser therapy can be very effective for settling inflammation and stimulating tissue repair. As pain subsides, Myofascial Release Technique (MRT) and home rehabilitation exercises can be undertaken to address the underlying cause of the stress / compression that is affecting the bursa.
