Bursitis

A bursa is a fluid filled sac that is located between muscles / ligaments / and bones to facilitate sliding of structures within the body. A variety of problems such as muscle tightness, muscle imbalance, or abnormal foot, knee, or hip motion can lead to excessive stress or compression to the bursa resulting in pain and inflammation. When this happens knee pain will develop. There are several key bursa in the knee that can become problematic.

Our Approach

The early stages of treatment are focused on reducing the inflammation of the bursa. Low-intensity laser therapy may be effective in settling pain and inflammation of bursitis. As pain subsides,  Myofasical Release Techniques (MRT) and home functional rehabilitation exercises can be undertaken to address the underlying cause of the stress / compression that is affecting the bursa.
